eBay Idiots (Continued)
I just thought that everyone would like to know about the continued correspondence between me and jcity730 on eBay about his dishonest selling of an item on eBay.
jcity730:
[blockquote]LOOK OBVIOUSLY IF YOU DONT WANT TO BID DONT BID BUT DONT EMAIL TELLING WHAT TO DO AND WHAT NOT TO DO THE PHONE IS A V-CAST PHONE AND THE PIX ARE THERE SO IF YOU DONT WANT IT DONT BID ON IT!!![/blockquote]
Me:
[blockquote]As soon as you stop telling me that I can't read, then I will stop telling you what to do with the phone. Obviously you can't read that the phone says Motorola on it, not LG. Learn to read when you are setting up your item to sell.[/blockquote]

eBay Idiots
I'm looking to buy an LG VX8600 phone on eBay. I probably won't end up really doing it, because they are all going for more than $200. In my quest to get this phone, however, I ran into an idiot who looks like he's trying to make a lot of money on a Motorola phone, by listing it as a new LG VX8600. [url=http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=005&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=150074273334&rd=1&rd=1]Check it out[/url]! He's got the item listed as a VX8600, as this picture of the listing title clearly shows:
But these pictures clearly show a Motorola phone! What the heck?
The best part is that he "found this phone outside," which means he stole it and he's trying to sell it on eBay when he should be returning it to the wireless carrier so that they can get it back to the rightful owner. I've been e-mailing him and telling him to change his listing and stop selling it as well. He just calls me a retard and tells me that I can't read. Here's the correspondence between us:
Me:
[blockquote]So you basically stole this phone and you are selling it on ebay now? How would the ESN ever be cleared for activation?[/blockquote]
jcity730:
[blockquote]NO CORRECTION I DIDNT STEAL THE PHONE OK!!!! THE PHONE WAS FOUND OUTSIDE OK SO DONT ASSUME THINGS AND DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DON'T BID ON IT OK !!! HAVE A NICE DAY!!![/blockquote]
Me:
[blockquote]It is very easy to find out who a cell phone belongs to by contacting the carrier. Return it to its rightful owner.[/blockquote]
jcity730:
[blockquote]listen do not email me again ok if you do not want the phone bid on something else instead of harrassing me !!!!!!![/blockquote]
Me:
[blockquote]That's not an LG VX8600! It's a Motorola phone! It says Motorola all over it! Why are you selling it with the description of a VX8600?[/blockquote]
jcity730:
[blockquote]obviously you can't read the auction it says up for grabs is an used VERIZON V-CAST PHONE GREY IN COLOR THE PICTURES ARE THERE IF YOU DONT WANT IT DONT BID ON IT!!!![/blockquote]
Me:
[blockquote]Obviously you don't know how to post properly on ebay. The title to your listing, what people see when they click on your listing, is LG VX8600 (Verizon Wireless). And the description shows an LG VX8600 with all of the specifications of that phone, not the Motorola phone that you are selling. Look at your listing again, because you are misleading people. Change your listing to say Motorola Razr and not LG VX8600.[/blockquote]
I haven't received a reply to my last e-mail to jcity730. The item currently has a bid of $134.50 and has 2 days, 14 hours left. I just wish there was some way that I could get word out to all of these bidders that they are not getting what they think they are getting! This is really frustrating to me. Tell me, who is the idiot that can't read here?

Verizon Bluetooth battle
I want a phone that does dial up networking over Bluetooth. I have been on a quest to get my current phone to do "DUN" over Bluetooth. Well, to my atonishment, on December 11, 2006, Verizon posted a new Bluetooth functionality chart at [url=http://support.vzw.com/pdf/BT_Chart_Handsets.pdf]http://support.vzw.com/pdf/BT_Chart_Handsets.pdf[/url/> and it shows the Samsung SCH-A950 as supporting DUN over Bluetooth! I was rejoicing! They released a software update to unlock the phone's potential! I e-mailed Verizon customer support in an attempt to find out what I need to do to make my phone work using DUN over Bluetooth. To my dismay, they responded:
[blockquote] Thank you for contacting our Verizon Wireless website. We are happy to assist you with your question regarding using the Samsung A950 as a modem.
We apologize for the confusion. Unfortunately, the Samsung A950 is not supported for tethered modem usage via USB cable or Bluetooth. Sorry that incorrect information was provided at the link. We will need to get this link corrected. Currently the Samsung A990 and A930 are supported tethered modem usage with our BroadbandAccess Connect option at $59.99 per month.
If you have further questions or concerns, please write to us again through www.VerizonWireless.com. We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing Verizon Wireless.
Sincerely,
Bernard
Verizon Wireless
Data Technical Support[/blockquote]
Dang it! They made a mistake? What? Why would they change their chart and change the A950 to show that it supported DUN over Bluetooth? This doesn't make any sense! Anyway, to sum it up, Verizon got my hopes up high and then brought them crashing down!
For more coverage on this topic see my [url=http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1069849]Howardforums posting[/url].
Just in case Verizon changes the Bluetooth Compatability Chart (which they said they would do, but they haven't yet), here is a copy of the one that they had up: [url=http://www.tigrao.org/stuff/BT_Chart_Handsets.pdf]http://www.tigrao.org/stuff/BT_Chart_Handsets.pdf[/url].

Server Uptime... no more :(
Sigh... after nearly 25 days I rebooted my computer. The high uptime (high for me at least) is no more. Oh well, at least I got this screen capture to prove that it was up for almost 25 days. I had to reboot because I installed a newer virus scan software and I also installed the Windows Updates that came out today. Hmmm... I think that the last time I rebooted was because of Windows Updates as well. I suppose we have to have a reason to reboot our computers every now and then...

Utah vs USU!
The Utah Runnin' Utes come to Logan tonight to take on the Utah State Aggies! The Aggies at 6-1 look like they should walk all over the Utes who are at 3-3. I'll be there to cheer on our Aggies as they look to move to 7-1 this year in a great start of a season that looks to be very promising! Go Aggies, kick the crap out of those Utes!
Oh, and by the way, next Saturday we take on the BYU Cougars...heh heh... I love these in state rivalries! BYU will also go down on their home floor!
Any comments from those of you out there in the internet world on how the Aggies will do this year?

DNS Woes
Well, about six months ago I switched Dynamic DNS Hosts because [url=http://www.afraid.org]afraid.org[/url] went down after a denial of service attack. Supposedly they've been back up and running just fine since this happened. Well, on that day I switched to everydns.net for my DNS hosting. Sadly, today they were down. I couldn't get to any of my sites that were hosted by everydns. So, I switched back to afraid.org and I was up and running within an hour.
In fact, I just tried to do a DNS query using everydns's name servers and I cannot get a reply. I also cannot get to their webpage at [url=http://www.everydns.net]www.everydns.net[/url]. This is interesting. I wonder what has happened to them?
Anyway, [url=http://www.afraid.org]afraid.org[/url] was great when I was with them and they look to be great still! I would recommend them to all of you who need a good DNS hosting solution!

Real Player = Bad
This is a picture that I hope you never have to see on your computer. Real Player is just bad. I won't expound on it now, maybe in another post in the future someday I will. I just can't figure out how to get Windows to recognize the RTSP protocol without installing Real Player. If someone out there knows a way I would be glad to hear it.
Anyway, for now I install Real Player, uninstall it, and then associate the RTSP protocol with QuickTime. I wish I could find a better way.

Strep Throat
For all of you who have not had strep throat... I want to congratulate you! Strep throat is HELL! If you don't know about it, here is what [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strep]Wikipedia[/url] has to say about it:
[blockquote]Symptoms
The signs and symptoms of strep throat are red, sore throat with white or yellow patches on tonsils, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, fever over 101 Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius), headache, extreme shaking/shivering, and cold sweats. Many patients also have difficulty swallowing and talking. Nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain are more common in children. Cough is infrequent in older patients, but younger children may experience cold-like symptoms including stuffy noses and sneezing similar to many viral infections. The onset of a rash may be a sign of scarlet fever.[/blockquote]
I had all of that! A horrible pain in my throat, fever of 102, headache, shaking/shivering, and VERY cold sweats at night! I also had the nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and cough! Ugghhh! I hope that I never have to go through this again! It lasted for freaking two weeks! Luckily, taking good old penicillin cured my problem and I am up and going again...
I hope that none of you have to go through this crap!

NCAA Football 2007
I have been playing NCAA Football 2007 on my Xbox a lot since I got it. It is a great game! Do you know why I do it? Because I play as the Utah State Aggies, and actually make them win!
I just barley completed a season and USU ranked number 18 in the nation at the end of the season, as I went 13-1 on the year and won the Hawaii Bowl against Arizona! It is great to live in a fantasy world where USU actually has a decent team. Too bad they never will... :(
What games does everyone else play?

Check Out My Friend's Site
Okay, so I usually wouldn't specifically create an entry to advertise one particular website, but in this case I must make an exception. I noted in a posting quite some time ago that I am hosting some sites for some friends. Well, one of those sites is coming along quite nicely. My friend, 'J,' has been doing quite a bit of work on her site lately and she deserves to be rewarded by having people look at it! [url=http://www.rainofcolors.com]Check it out![/url]

Cell Phones: Are They For Everyone?
You may think that this picture is weird. Actually a lot of you out there probably don't find it weird at all. I look forward to a day when all of my family will have a cell phone to carry around with them. It is one of the most annoying things to want to talk to your mother, father, brother, or sister, and not be able to because they are out somewhere without a way to contact them.
My parents refuse to subscribe to a cellular phone provider. I won't go into the reasons why at this time. My post here does not have the purpose of getting after anyone or try to prove a point at all.
I have started to have a mindset that everyone should have a cell phone, whether it is for emergencies or simply for convenience of family members to be able to get in contact with you when they need to. However, I am very biased since I have had my phone for a year.
Should everyone have a cell phone? Are there some people that absolutely should not? Should I even post an entry like this?

Send Free Pix Messages on Verizon!
I recently ran on to [url=http://www.humpa.com/downloads/index.php?humpa_id=7#h7]Humpa's PHP Pic Server for MMS messages[/url]. This is a set of PHP scripts that you can install on your web server that will allow your phone to connect and send MMS messages to any e-mail address for free! I just finished setting it up last night and it is great! I can now e-mail myself pictures that I take with my phone without getting the 25 cent Verizon charge!
There are still drawbacks. You can't receive picture messages on your phone without getting around the 25 cent charge. You can send, though! However, you must consider others still, and not give them 25 cent message charges. Stick with sending them to e-mail addresses.
If anyone is interested in setting up their phone to send free MMS messages, contact me and I'll help you to use my web server to do so.

Web Server moved to Apache
Yesterday I shutdown Microsoft Internet Information Services! I finally moved everything over to Apache. Everything now runs over port 80, like normal web traffic should. Before I had both Apache running some of my services and IIS running the rest. Now Apache handles it all! IIS on Windows XP x64 will not do more than one website without hacking it. Apache will allow you to run as many websites as you want, all using name-based virtual hosting. I knew that I was going to switch everything over to Apache for this reason, I just didn't know when.
Yesterday I decided to buy more domain names for a couple of my friends. Well, I was going to host one of those domains and I couldn't do it without finally making the switch. I was able to change my Apache configuration properly and work out all of the bugs. So, welcome to a website hosted by Apache! Doesn't it feel good to not have IIS serving the page?
Oh, by the way, visit [url=http://www.doehead.com]www.doehead.com[/url], the other site being served by my Apache server...

Windows 3.1 on a New Laptop!
Yesterday I decided to try and install DOS/Windows 3.1 on the USB drive that I got. Well, I used VMware Workstation to do it. I got it all working fine in VMware, so I decided to try and boot my computer from the USB key. It worked to boot into DOS, but Windows would freeze before loading.
Well, today Bob and I were playing with it and Bob figured out how to make it work. If you add the /d:t parameter to win.com then it will run. Apparently, Windows 3.1 can't recognize that modern computers are 386 compatible. It freezes, not knowing what to do. Anyway, it works...
We got it running on Bob's laptop... see the screenshot:

Small Satellite Conference
I've been providing computer support to the Small Satellite Conference this week. It has been a really fun experience! This is a much larger conference than I anticipated. Such important people as Mike Griffin, NASA Administrator, and Jean-Jacques Dordain, Director of the European Space Agency, have been here! I have helped many important people get their presentations loaded onto the system and make sure that there aren't any bugs in them.
There have also been many generous people come my way. They've given me shirts, food, and other cool stuff. One thing I got today was a 512 MB USB drive! It is a cool one. It looks like it is a pocket knife, but it really isn't! It is in a really rigid metal and leather case. I couldn't believe it was a USB drive when he gave it to me. Here are some pictures of it...

Internet Explorer on Linux
A long time ago I was experimenting with using Internet Explorer on Linux. I never got it working quite right. Well, today I ran on to a site that makes it easy for you! [url=http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/index-en.html]IEs 4 Linux[/url] is an easy script that installs Internet Explorer on Linux for you. I just got done installing it and it works great! I'm even posting this entry running Internet Explorer on Linux!
Here's a screenshot:
Anyway, you may ask why in the world I would want to run Internet Explorer on Linux? Um... good question. My answer would be: because I can, I guess. There are good reasons to do this, but none of those good reasons are mine. Verizon Wireless Sucks
I recently got a new phone. Most of you probably already know. It is a Samsung SCH-A950. It is 5,000 times better than my old phone, an LG VX-3300. Phones can actually do more than just be a phone, I found out! This SCH-A950 plays MP3s and videos, has a camera which does both still pictures and video, and has Bluetooth! I like this phone a lot.
However, since I got this phone, I found out that Verizon cripples their phones. Not one of their phones supports Bluetooth Object Exchange. This means that I can't transfer files from my computer onto my phone or vice versa. They also disabled Bluetooth dial-up networking and other Bluetooth features. Now, Bluetooth hardware is Bluetooth hardware. If it can do one of these things, it can do all of them. It is simply that they've requested that the features be disabled!!! How ridiculous!!! For some phones there are hacks to enable these things, but for most there isn't a way to do it. I would absolutely love to use the capabilities of my phone and transfer files wirelessly to/from my computer. I would also love to dial up to the internet using my phone as it is wirelessly connected to my laptop. These are all built in to the hardware... Why does Verizon have to cripple their phones??? When my contract is up, I am switching to another provider for sure. 90% of my friends and family use Verizon, but I don't care. I will switch to T-Mobile, who doesn't cripple their phones like Verizon does!
Any of you out there have comments or concerns with T-Mobile, Verizon or other providers? Would T-Mobile be a good provider to switch to?

However, since I got this phone, I found out that Verizon cripples their phones. Not one of their phones supports Bluetooth Object Exchange. This means that I can't transfer files from my computer onto my phone or vice versa. They also disabled Bluetooth dial-up networking and other Bluetooth features. Now, Bluetooth hardware is Bluetooth hardware. If it can do one of these things, it can do all of them. It is simply that they've requested that the features be disabled!!! How ridiculous!!! I Found My Jersey!
I found my soccer jersey yesterday! It had been missing for at least six months. I was so happy! It is a jersey of the Sao Paulo futebol clube. That translates to Sao Paulo soccer club, if you can't figure it out. They are the best team in the Brazilian League, in my humble opinion.

I'm an Uncle, Again!
Ryker Tyrell Andersen came to this world at 12:06 AM, July 4, 2006. He weighed in at an astounding 10 pounds 8 ounces and 22 1/2 inches long! I don't know how in the world a baby that big can come out of the birth cannal, but somehow they got him out and they did not have to do a C-Section. He's a cute kid and we love him! There will be pictures coming in the photo gallery later tonight.

Brazil Chokes
The Brazilian team choked against France today. They lost 1-0 on a beautifully executed free kick play by France. France moves on to play Portugal in the semi-finals. The winner of France vs Portugal will take on the winner of Germany vs Italy for the World Cup Championship.
I think that Germany will pull it off. They look strong. After being beaten 2-0 by Brazil in the 2002 World Cup Final, I'm sure that they want it more than anyone else does right now.
Well, I'm no longer in the mood to play my FIFA 2006 soccer game on the computer. Brazil is gone, so my soccer mood is gone. I'll go back to first-person shooters now.

Ronaldo Breaks World Cup Record!
If he wasn't the Great Ronaldo before, he is now... Ronaldo scored his 15th World Cup goal today, passing up Gerd Muller and Pele, to become the all-time leading goal scorer in World Cup history. Brazil beat the African nation of Ghana 3-0 to move on to the World Cup Quarter-finals. They will play France at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 1 for a spot in the semi-finals.

Kevin is Awesome!
So, my good work buddy (and LAN party buddy), Kevin, bought a new computer case online. It arrived today and it came with these cool lights to put in it. Well, he said that he didn't want both of them, so he gave one to me!!! Kevin is awesome!!! You can see a larger image by clicking on the picture to the left. I wish I could have got a better picture, but it is hard to get a good picture and yet see the blue light.
Thanks a bunch, Kevin!

LAN Party fun
The LAN party was awesome! Those of you that did not come missed out on a lot of fun! We played Battlefield Vietnam. In that game we flew helicopters and flew jet airplanes to destroy each other. You can also drive tanks, jeeps, motorcycles, and a lot of others. We also played Call of Duty 2, Halo, and Far Cry. It was awesome!
Anyway, my site is back online with all services running smoothly! :)

Website has temporary home
Well, today we are having the infamous LAN party at Kevin's house. It is going to rock! However, I am taking my computer with me to work so that I don't have to come back and get it. My site is being hosted on a Pentium II Windows Server 2003 box for a couple of days. Because of this, you'll probably notice that some of the links do not work. My music server will be down, and my photo gallery probably will be as well. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. But, believe me... these parties are well worth any inconvenience!

Wants
Sometimes, as human beings, we want certain things so badly, yet we know that those things are not obtainable. Why do we do that? I guess coming to the realization that the certain thing that we want is not obtainable is a good step in the right direction. Maybe from there we can convince ourselves that we don't want it so badly anymore.

2006 World Cup
It is time for that great event that only occurs once every four years! Yes, it is the World Cup of Soccer! The Brazilian National team is the defending champion and they are favoured to take it all again this year. Ronaldo (pictured on the left) is known by many to be as great as Pele.
I'm excited for some World Cup action. Go Brazil! (Oh, and go USA too) :)
Is anybody else going to be watching?

The Nintendo Wii
It has been awhile, but Nintendo has announced the name of their latest console system (which was code named Revolution), the Nintendo Wii. I don't know about any of you, but this was a total shock to me. What kind of name is this? It sounds pretty gay to me. Nonetheless, I am still planning on getting one. At release, it is going to be around $200-$250. Compared to the Xbox 360 ($300-$500 depending on the configuration that you select) and to the PS3, which has yet to be released (announced at $400-$600 or so), the Nintendo Wii has a much lower price tag. It also has a new revolutionary controller, which will dramatically change the way video games are played. The Wii has many other features which can be read about here.
I think that it will be the best of the latest generation of console systems. The potential is huge! Why the gay name, though? :)

The Ocean
Today we spent a good amount of time at the ocean. We went to a preserve area where you aren't allowed to pick up any shells or anything. I saw little crabs and sea urchins and all sorts of things in the rocks! It was fun! I also waded through the sea and let the waves hit me. It was very enjoyable. I haven't experienced the ocean very much in my life, this was probably only about the third time. The one thing that I want to do that I haven't yet is swim in the ocean. I'll have to come back to the ocean some day and actually do that... By the way, the ocean really does breathe salty! :)

Sea World
We went to Sea World today. I've never been there before. I was so impressed with the Shamu show and the dolphin show. Wow! It was amazing! There are so many creatures on this Earth that I've never seen and some that I will never see. God made so many magnificant animals! Seeing Shamu jump out of the water was such an glorious thing to behold! I gained a greater appreciation for God's creations today.
We only spent a few hours at Sea World because we ran out of time. We had to make sure that we were at the habor to get on our boat cruise that we had made reservations for. I sure hope to go back to Sea World someday...

Las Vegas...
So, I have now seen "Sin City." I think that it is exactly what Lehi saw in his dream in the Book of Mormon. I'm absolutely certain that he invisioned buildings like Cesar's Palace and the Flamingo, and Belagio in his dream. I saw multitudes of people handing out pornography on the streets. I saw numberless people gambling their life away on the slot machines and the blackjack tables. I also saw lions and a recreation of Manhattan, and a pyramid called Lexor. Hmmm... I don't think I feel a dying need to go back to Las Vegas. Maybe I just didn't see all of the good things that the city has to offer. What are everyone else's thoughts on the city of sin? Do you like it?

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Has anyone ever played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time? This game might just be my favorite game of all time! A close friend reminded me of how cool the game was and I started on it again. It is so fun! You are Link, the legendary hero of time, as you travel through the land of Hyrule to save Princess Zelda in an awesome adventure story. If you have never played this game, I highly recommend it, even though it is an older game for the Nintendo 64. I just have to put my two cents worth in on such a cool game...

Softball is fun!
I have been recruited onto a softball team recently. Yesterday we won our game 16-9. I am having so much fun playing! Church softball actually starts up soon and I am way excited for it! I haven't played church softball for a very long time. I just love sports in general. They are the biggest tool that I have to keep myself in shape. Exercise alone doesn't cut it for me. Sports are what keeps me going and keeps me active. Anyone else out there excited for summer and summer sports?

Hewlett Packard sucks!
Hewlett Packard has a knack for writing bad and bloated software. I was trying to install some drivers for a printer today and it just was not working. I told it to cancel the installation and it uninstalled the driver, but then it insisted that I needed to restart the computer! How annoying! I hit restart later, then left it alone. However, I forgot that I hit restart later and did it again. I discovered that it would continue popping up the same window over and over again... how retarded!

Meet the family dogs!
I cannot believe that I've never introduced the family dogs on my website! Well, meet the dogs... The picture shown on the left is of Oxy, our sweet lovable and obedient dog. She is such a sweetheart! On the right we have Morte. He is actually Oxy's puppy, but he has grown to be almost twice the size of her. He keeps on eating and growing and getting big. We are walking him a lot now and playing with him a lot more to get him more physically fit and it seems to be working. He is a good dog that loves to be petted! We love them both! Misspelling words gets you hits!
Looking through my server logs today, I found out that someone hit my site from Google by doing a search for "ken chessy country music." Wow, what do you know? My site comes up as third on the list! That's very strange, I thought. Why in the world would my site come up as a result from those words? Well, the name Ken is obviously in this site. I also recently posted about how country music was starting to grow on me. However, I didn't know where "chessy" was coming from. Obviously this person was looking for Kenny Chesney, but didn't know how to spell his name.
As I continued to look, I found it! I misspelled "cheesy." I was talking about the movie Armageddon as being cheesy, but I spelled it chessy.
Isn't it funny how weird things happen in this world?

World of Warcraft
On Slashdot today there is an article about World of Warcraft and the trouble that its users are having on the servers. Blizzard has been having a lot of issues with server maintenance and network availability.
I've always had my concerns with the fact that you buy a game for $40 or more and then to continue playing it you have to pay a monthly 15 dollar fee. This just does not seem right to me. They should at least give you a single player mode so that when you can't afford to keep paying the monthly fee, you don't have to just sit your game on the shelf.
Well, now comes my question to the WoW people out there... With the network troubles and the monthly 15 dollar fee is it still worth it to keep paying so that you can keep playing?
(As usual, the image was stolen... this time from blizzard.com)

Bomb Iran?
There is a lot in the news lately about Iran building up a nuclear arsenal. Do you guys think that we should move in and take them out before they take us out? Is this just a big hype in the media and Iran isn't really a threat?
I think that it might be better if we just forced democracy on everyone and forced our culture on the world... just kidding. I really don't know what we are doing in Iraq and what should be done about Iran.
I found a hilarious video about bombing Iran while I was surfing the net. This was the whole point to this post anyway. :)

Good Music...
We had a thread about movies that generated quite a bit of discussion. Let's see how a thread about music goes...
I love music! I listen to all kinds of music all the time! Music is a big part of my life. For the past few days I have been working on aquiring the Billboard Top 100 Hits for every year that I can. I have all of the 90s hits now. It's great stuff! It's the music I heard all through middle school and high school! So that's the kind of stuff I've been listening to lately.
Right now I have a few favorite bands/singers. I'll see if I can compile a list for you...
- The All-American Rejects
- Theory of a Deadman
- Jimmy Eat World
- Hoobastank
- Daniel Powter
- Dashboard Confessional
- Fall Out Boy
- Good Charlotte
This is the stuff I listened to all the time in high school...
- Savage Garden
- Hootie and the Blowfish
- Chumbawamba
- Chicago
- Boyz II Men
- Hanson :)
- Air Supply
- 98 Degrees
- Backstreet Boys
- A ton of other crap that I just can't remember right now
What bands/singers do you guys all like? Maybe this thread can become a good flame war too :P (Especially when I list crap like Hanson)

Save me from country music!
Guys, I'm in trouble. For almost my entire life I have had one sworn enemy. That enemy was country music. I am finding myself liking it more and more! As a little kid I was fairly isolated from it, as my family didn't listen to it much. However, my parents loved Sawyer Brown. That was as "country" as we got. I loved some of their songs as a little boy, but I never thought that they were country. I guess they aren't really. Anyway, I got a couple of their albums and I have been listening to them. I like them.
There is more to this, though. A couple of months ago, my brother and his wife were listening to Keith Urban's "Making Memories Of Us." I really liked what I was hearing. I went to find the song and when I found out that it was country I freaked out! It looks like a lot of country is basically merging with the pop/contemporary world.
Now, after getting the latest Chicago album "XXX" I found out that it was produced together with the lead singer from Rascal Flatts. Rascal Flatts even sings together with Chicago in my favorite song from the album "Love Will Come Back." Does this mean that I like country now?
I am "previewing" (aka pirating albums off of the internet) a lot of country music now and I am finding out that I actually kind of like it. Is this the demise of Ken as we know him?
(Sorry, I still don't like the Dixie Chicks, but maybe I will after "previewing" some of their stuff again :P)

That's all for now, I'll post more as I think of them. What do you guys like?

Internet Explorer vs Firefox
If any of you out there that read my page are still using Internet Explorer, please stop! It sucks! Just to prove to you how much it sucks, look at my page in Firefox and then look at it in Internet Explorer. Look how much it messes up the page! On the right, for some reason, it even merges the "Ken's Cam" and the "Server stats" blocks into one. Look at how the pictures in some of my entries seem to go out of the entry borders. Internet Explorer is messed up and does not follow any standards. Use Firefox!

More candy that's good...
Anyone ever had Pirates of the Caribbean fruit snacks? They are made by Kellogg's and you can find them at Walmart, and at other stores, I'm sure. I love them! You should all try them! I've liked other fruit snacks before, but never LOVED them. These are definitely lovable fruit snacks. I'm posting this because I bought four boxes of them for my mom, about two months ago. Now she bought a whole bunch and gave a box to me! How nice of her!

I'm a goof. I suppose that it is stuff like this that I get myself into, though, when I should be doing homework but I choose not to. Here is a video I made just to see what I could do with this camera. The song is "Love Will Come Back" by Chicago. It is almost becoming my motto for right now... :P

Chicago releases a new album!
I just found out today as I was walking through Walmart that Chicago released a new album! I was just browsing through the popular music and I saw that Chicago was in the new releases section! This is exciting! I love Chicago!
From Chicago's web site:
[blockquote]Long awaited, CHICAGO XXX, introduces 13 new songs from one of America's greatest bands.[/blockquote]
13 all new songs from a band that hasn't released all new material in over a decade? Awesome!!! (I'm listening now as we speak)

I've posted about this song before, but I have to throw these lyrics in... maybe I'll even post an attempt at me singing this song later and you can all be Simon Cowell! :P
Theory of a Deadman - Since You've Been Gone:
[blockquote]It seems that nothing ever goes my way
Since you broke my heart when you left that day
There's nowhere to go so just stay with me
Cuz since you've been gone, I've been beggin' you please
To tell me you're not alright
And you needed to come home
(Since you've been gone)
To tell me you're not okay
And you needed me all along
Since you've been gone
I need to hear from you
Since you've been gone
It seems that every time you swear to God that you're leaving
I'm down on my knees beggin' you to stay
There's nowhere to go so just stay with me
Cuz since you've been gone, I've been beggin' you please
To tell me you're not alright
And you needed to come home
(Since you've been gone)
To tell me you're not okay
And you needed me all along
Since you've been gone
Please don't leave me here alone
Just stay awhile
Make me smile
Please don't leave me here alone
Just stay awhile
And, baby, smile
Since you've been gone
I need to hear from you
Since you've been gone
I need to hear you say
Tell me you're not alright
And you needed to come home
(Since you've been gone)
Tell me you're not okay
And you needed me all along
Since you've been gone
I need to hear you say

Brigham Young University... ugghhh
What in the crud is going on down at BYU? I just heard today the a BYUSA coordinator got fired for voicing his opinion about the BYU administration. What in the world is that??? Since when can a private university go against the laws of our country and prohibit free speech?
Todd J. Hendricks, the BYUSA coordinator, was fired after writing the following letter that was published in BYU's newspaper "The Daily Universe."
[blockquote]BYUSA's special interests
As a coordinator with student leadership and adviser with BYUSA, I share my concerns about the BYUSA student body elections and the recent disqualification of candidates. Each year, a full-time employee takes a turn rewriting election regulations, then appoints a student to chair the elections committee that will ensure candidates' compliance.
Conflict of interest and anonymity can hamper the committee. The committee comprises 10 students who are anonymous to the student body but, through associations in BYUSA, generally have strong ties to one or more of the candidates or to a full-time employee. The committee meets every evening prior to and during elections to discuss reports of "infractions" - complaints filed by candidates against one another, often anonymously, in hopes of securing penalties for the opposing team.
It is a system that rewards collusion and exaggeration. In addressing alleged infractions, the committee's anonymous identities and confidential proceedings sometimes cloud judgment. Special interest, rather than actual student votes, may thus determine the BYUSA presidency.
It is important to scrutinize candidates during election week, but it is also important to scrutinize the methodologies of the election's sponsors. I encourage the campus community to work with next year's BYUSA president and Student Advisory Council to establish clear election criteria and procedures. The elections committee must be housed outside BYUSA so the election outcome will not be decided by student leadership, full-time staff and volunteers with special interests. Proceedings of the committee must be fully transparent and, with few exceptions, disclosed to the press. Decision makers must be held accountable before the student body, whose election this is.
Todd J. Hendricks
Coordinator, BYU Student Leadership[/blockquote]
Can anyone fill in the blanks for me? What was in that letter that merited an employee's termination? I think BYU has a problem.

I'm Engaged!
This is as much of a shock to me as it is to all of you... I still can't believe that it happened so fast! I'm engaged! This time it is for real. I was engaged once before and it didn't work out. She is the love of my life... wow, we only met a month ago. We are getting married on July 7th. Everyone that reads this page is invited to come to the wedding, which will be held in the Logan temple. Formal invitations will be sent, don't worry.

There is still good music being made!
Wow! I just discovered a new group last night. A friend of mine introduced me to a new video game called "Indigo Prophecy." On that game there are four songs by a group called "Theory of a Deadman." I had never heard of them before. I decided to find their CD and listen to it because I liked what I heard on the game.
I was blown away! There are a lot of tracks with heavy guitar that are cool. However, I am a sucker when it comes to rock/metal bands that play ballads. "Since You've Been Gone" from their new album "Gasoline" absolutely hit my heart with power! I've found a new group to put in my list of favorite bands!

Life is never as bad as it seems to be
I've started to think lately that I have depression. I've gone through some really hard times and it has shown in my school work. Today I had two tests that were based upon homework that I didn't do this month. I crammed as much as I could for them and tried my very best. I'm sure that I failed my calculus test, nothing seemed right on there. However, on my computer science test, I actually think that I did halfway decent. I felt like I knew all of the answers. In fact, I think everything that I crammed for in the last hour before the test was exactly what was on the test.
However, even if I did fail both tests completely, so what? I'm still alive. I still love my job. I still have friends. Failing tests is not something I am used to, but I can tell that it is something that can be overcome.
For the past two days or so I was thinking that my life is over and that I have nothing else to live for. Well, it simply isn't true. I have so many people that care about me. I know that life is never as bad as it seems to be. I'm okay.

Final Four
How cool is that? George Mason, a number 11 seed, beat the number one seed, Conneticut, to advance to the final four! It took overtime to do it, but they did it! I'm definitely cheering for the underdog to win it all!

Dedicating the website to my good friends...
The university newspaper "The Statesman" always dedicates every issue to one particular student. I think that every once in a while I'm going to change the title of the site to reflect the person that I'm dedicating the site to on that particular day. You can tell that today it is dedicated to James. :P

Running as a non-administator on Windows XP
Running as a non-administrator on Windows XP is the way to go. If you are still running an account with administrative privileges on Windows (which is the default), you should re-think what you are doing.
When running as an administrator, malicious websites can take advantage of the elevated privleges that an administrator has and they can wreak havoc on your system. Viruses can also take over your system and do a lot of damage when being run as an administrator.
I have run as a non-administrator on my system at work (by company policy) and at home now for quite some time. I am quite pleased with the results.
To be able to do some administrative tasks, however, it is very annoying to log off of your account and log back in under the Administator account. To get around this you can use the "runas" command to run Internet Explorer. That is the way that I have been doing it. I won't tell you exactly how to do that, though, because I found a better way. I'll explain...
When Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7 come out, the trick of running IE as an administrator won't work anymore. This is because Microsoft is finally breaking the ties between Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. As I've tested the Internet Explorer 7 Beta previews I've come to realize that my tricks won't work on Windows XP after Internet Explorer 7 comes out.
I found a way around it today! You can run Windows Explorer as a separate process and it works! Here's how:
First, run regedit.exe as an administrator and navigate to HKCU \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Advanced. Change the SeparateProcess value from 0 to 1. This will cause explorer to run as a separate process under the administrator user account.
Next (as an administrator) make a batch file called admin.bat in the c:\windows\system32 folder. In that file paste the following:
[code]@ECHO OFF
runas /user:Administrator /savecred %1[/code]
Now, under a non-administrator account, go to start...run... and type "admin explorer" You'll then get a new Windows Explorer window that is running with full administrative privileges. You can then complete any administrative task without logging off and back on.
(Hint found at this site.)

Entry for Tonight
I just can't get myself to go to bed without posting something tonight. I really don't know what I am going to write, so I guess we'll see how this goes.
I find myself going to bed earlier these days. I just don't see much to stay up for, I dunno. Everyone else here goes to bed at a decent time, I guess it is time that I started doing that too.
Oh, I just found out that I am going to be home alone for the next several nights. My brother got a job working swing shift and my parents are going on a nice romantic getaway for their 26th anniversary. It will be interesting staying at home by myself for the next few days...
I'm excited for tomorrow. Sunday is the only day that I see most of my friends for some reason. I guess we are all slackers and don't call each other and invite each other to do stuff. We all meet at church and talk to each other there. Sundays are good days.
Well, I am going to bed before Sunday actually gets here. Just thought I'd leave you all tonight with a few things.
Good night.

The Dance Is Done
USU lost to Washington tonight 75-61. We battled hard, but Washington's Brandon Roy proved to be too much for the Aggies, as he took over the game and scored 28 points against the zone defense of Utah State. Very disappointing to us Aggie fans, but it was a good season... Good luck next year Aggies!

March Madness at its Best!
I love it! You know March is in full swing when the NCAA tournament occurs. Check it out... the games that are not being broadcast in your local area are available to watch online at http://www.ncaasports.com/mmod. I setup my computer downstairs next to the TV so that I could watch three games at a time. It rocks! For your viewing pleasure:

Montana beats Nevada!
Nevada's tournament run is done already! 12th seed Montana beat 5th seed Nevada today in Salt Lake City. Crazy stuff happens in the NCAA tournament every year. Now Utah State needs to show up and beat Washington too to give the WAC some representation in the tournament.

MSN Buddies
How many contacts do you have on your MSN list? Right now I have 8 online, 5 mobile, and 10 offline contacts. That makes 23 total. I reduced my list by quite a bit a few weeks ago and I took off all of the people that I haven't seen sign on for years. That really reduced my list. I guess I need to make more online buddies now.
Do you guys have any contacts on your list that are online quite a bit, but yet you don't talk to them? I was thinking about that today. There are a couple that I haven't talked to for a while. I really don't know why. We just, um, stop talking. I can't explain it any differently... How are your contact lists?
