No Super Bowl Party
I know I'm two days late posting this, but I needed to calm down before I posted crap that I would regret later.I know I'm going to have maybe two upset people because I have so many friends, but there will be no Super Bowl party at my house on February 5th. The Denver Broncos lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday to lose their chance to go to the Super Bowl. Sigh... I'm kind of upset about it. I was sure that they were going to win.
Well, "Big Ben" and "The Bus" deserve it. They've worked hard this year and they've outplayed their opponents, especially when it really counted. Good luck, Pittsburgh, in the Super Bowl. Denver went down to a worthy opponent.

Just because your team sucks doesn't mean that we can't have a party!
ReplyDeleteYes, sir, it does mean that we can't have a party! I will be down in the dumps and will not be in the mood for any kind of a party! Parties are for celebrating and I sure don't feel like celebrating anything on February 5th!
ReplyDeleteCome on Ken... Just because they lost doesn't mean we can't have any fun.
ReplyDeleteI think that Tyrell is exactly right! To have the chance to throw a big party and not do it is like having the chance for someone to give you a hundred dollars for nothing, why wouldn't you do it. Sure maybe the last one hundred you had you lost and it was just a waste. There have been other years where the broncos have lost and I still remember parties being thrown. It isn't the end. Lets all have a big party and watch the Steelers crush the Seahawkes!
ReplyDeleteMan, guys get worked up about stupid things. I can say this because I'm related to you. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWell I was rooting for the cursed denver browncows however as a Niner/Raider fan I was not that sad that they lost. I am hoping that Seatle kills Pitsburg. The team that I despise the most (besides any from New York) is the Steelers
ReplyDeleteI agree with Cami, why would a stupid football make anyone "down in the dumps and not in the mood for a party"? I hate to break it to you, but if you lost any sort of game (church basketball for instance) I know that not one player on that team would be any more sad for it. They don't care about you so why do you care about them so much?
ReplyDelete...or is it some psychological thing where we want to associate ourselves with a particular group of people that can do something a lot better than we can, so that when they have a victory, we can somehow feel like we can claim a part of it, and feel good about ourselves? E.g. I could never win an NFL football game, so instead I will pretend like a certain team's victory is my own? Weird... Men are weird.
Anyhow, "your" team is just an arbitrary choice. You aren't even from Colorado. You have no real ties with them at all. Just choose a new team (a better one this time!).
But don't have a Superbowl party because that really isn't too appropriate for Sunday anyway. Do something with your family. (And don't say "okay, I'll watch football with my family." You know what I mean.)
Well. I guess it's my turn to post on this one now:
ReplyDelete1) It's ok Ken. I understand. If my team had gotten that close to the Super Bowl, and then got pushed out...I wouldn't want to have a party over it either.
2) Go Falcons.
3) Bob, you've got no room to call Denver the Browncows when you cheer for the San Francisco 4-Win 9ers and the Choke-land Raiders. :)
4) To the ladies out there. Sports (at least the good ones like football, basketball, and hockey - notice how I left out baseball) are competitive and exciting. Often times, we immerse ourselves in the action and emotions run high. This is why a loss can leave us disappointed and perhaps a little upset for a while. If you still can't understand that, let me pose this question: Why do girls like romance movies so much? Why do they cry sometimes when they watch them? After all, the characters are fictional and don't even live in a world where you exist. How could they care about you? Also, how could you get so worked up about a plot line that's so far from reality? The answer...because you get emotionally involved in what's going on, even though you know it has no impact on real life. That's sort of what happens for guys with sports. We get so excited about our teams and want them to win, that when they don't, we get upset.
Wow. I didn't know a small comment would make such a ruckus. But, James, from a girl that diapproves of getting too emotionally involved in romantic movies and watches them sparingly, I think girls crying over fictional characters is just as stupid as getting worked up over a loss. A universal tendency, perhaps, but still kind of pathetic. I'm an equal-opportunity critic.
ReplyDeleteThanks, James! I think I actually kind of understand better now... not that I get too into romance movies myself (you are cool, Cami), but the comparison makes sense. :) Thanks for explaining.
