Good Music...
We had a thread about movies that generated quite a bit of discussion. Let's see how a thread about music goes...I love music! I listen to all kinds of music all the time! Music is a big part of my life. For the past few days I have been working on aquiring the Billboard Top 100 Hits for every year that I can. I have all of the 90s hits now. It's great stuff! It's the music I heard all through middle school and high school! So that's the kind of stuff I've been listening to lately.
Right now I have a few favorite bands/singers. I'll see if I can compile a list for you...
- The All-American Rejects
- Theory of a Deadman
- Jimmy Eat World
- Hoobastank
- Daniel Powter
- Dashboard Confessional
- Fall Out Boy
- Good Charlotte
This is the stuff I listened to all the time in high school...
- Savage Garden
- Hootie and the Blowfish
- Chumbawamba
- Chicago
- Boyz II Men
- Hanson :)
- Air Supply
- 98 Degrees
- Backstreet Boys
- A ton of other crap that I just can't remember right now
What bands/singers do you guys all like? Maybe this thread can become a good flame war too :P (Especially when I list crap like Hanson)

Don't forget about Queen and Aerosmith!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Queen... I thought I had their Greatest Hits albums on my computer! I have nothing!!! Want to let me borrow your CDs? :)
ReplyDeleteMatchbox 20? Train? Goo-goo Dolls?
ReplyDeleteMatchbox 20 is excellent! I have liked a few Train songs, but I was never huge into them. I did buy Drops of Jupiter back in the day, yes. I like some Goo Goo Dolls songs too, but I was never huge into them either.
ReplyDelete(Since I never did get a real post in on the movies...I'll make up for it with a big post on music)
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'm a huge Barenaked Ladies fan, especially their early stuff. Some of their songs are random and funny. Others are pretty deep if you know anything about the band.
AC/DC had a few good songs (like Shake A Leg)
But these days I listen mostly to bands that most people have never heard of:
-The Spaceshots
-The Contingency Plan
-Suburban Legends
-The Gadjits
-Captain Wilberforce
-Van Go
-Nathan Duprey
-The Green Flash Society
-Salsa Commodity
If you've never heard of these guys, look them up on Google (or on download.com). Or I'll have to convince Ken to download them and put them on his server...
But there's some other good bands out there that you guys probably do know:
-The Ataris
-Linkin Park
-All American Rejects
-Everclear
Personally, I like everything but hip-hop and death metal. And for the most part, I hate country and rap too. But I can get into just about any other types: punk, classical, ska. You name it, I've probably got something that fits into that category.
I have never heard of any of the ones in your first list. However, I love all of the bands in your "known" list.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of The Contigency Plan. I think they're pretty good, but I haven't heard much of their stuff. Are the rest local bands too?
ReplyDeleteActually. Contingency Plan is the only band I listed there that was local.
ReplyDeleteSpaceshots are from Boston
Suburban Legends are from Orange, CA
Gadjits are from Kansas City
Captian Wilberforce is a British band (from Leeds...wherever that is)
Van Go is from Chicago
Nathan Duprey...also Boston
Green Flash Society is actually a bunch of high school kids in Wisconsin
Salsa Commodity is from Texas
And Contingency Plan, of course, is from Salt Lake. If you're into local bands, you may want to try Hourglass. They're from my home town, Heber City. They've got more of a classic, hard rock feel. Kind of like a mellow Metallica. Ok, not really Metallica but it has a feel similar to that era of music.
(Can you tell I've been doing homework all night and need a break?)
There is only one band that could ever be concered the best ever. The Beatles
ReplyDeleteI never really liked the Beatles. I don't know... they just don't do my type of music. I do, however, recognize their influence on the world and I know that they contributed a lot to music as we know it.
