World of Warcraft
On Slashdot today there is an article about World of Warcraft and the trouble that its users are having on the servers. Blizzard has been having a lot of issues with server maintenance and network availability.I've always had my concerns with the fact that you buy a game for $40 or more and then to continue playing it you have to pay a monthly 15 dollar fee. This just does not seem right to me. They should at least give you a single player mode so that when you can't afford to keep paying the monthly fee, you don't have to just sit your game on the shelf.
Well, now comes my question to the WoW people out there... With the network troubles and the monthly 15 dollar fee is it still worth it to keep paying so that you can keep playing?

Buy a Jeep, ATV, and a motorcycle. Screw wasting your life away in front of the computer. Sunshine is good for the soul.
ReplyDeleteYou don't need to buy anything to get out. Go hiking; go for a walk; go to the park; play basketball... not all recreational activities have to cost money.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both of you. Playing on the computer is NOT my ideal fun activity, no matter what anyone really thinks of me.
ReplyDeleteI love the outdoors. I love hiking, camping, swimming, riding ATVs, climbing mountains, skiing, tubing, and many, many other outdoor activities. I also love sports: basketball, softball, football, and more.
I do like computers, even enough to be highly involved with them for my career, but I like to do more than just sit on a computer.
Just for the record, I've never actually played World of Warcraft. I've just seen other people play it. I wanted to rant about the whole idea around it.
This is the problem I have with all MMORPGs. You buy the game and then have to pay to use it. I understand this because there are costs to keep the servers going. But these companies also go after other people hosting their own servers for these games, and close them down. If you're going to charge for use of the server, then people should be allowed to set up alternative servers. This is even more critical for a game like WoW where you pay to use a server that you can't use when you want to.
ReplyDeleteThere is atleast one MMORPG game out there that is free. That is Guild Wars, and Guild Wars Factions. My friend and I are playing that at the moment and it is a good game. We really enjoy it, and all we had to do was pay 50 bucks for the game nothing more. Thats the way it should be.
