Las Vegas...
So, I have now seen "Sin City." I think that it is exactly what Lehi saw in his dream in the Book of Mormon. I'm absolutely certain that he invisioned buildings like Cesar's Palace and the Flamingo, and Belagio in his dream. I saw multitudes of people handing out pornography on the streets. I saw numberless people gambling their life away on the slot machines and the blackjack tables. I also saw lions and a recreation of Manhattan, and a pyramid called Lexor. Hmmm... I don't think I feel a dying need to go back to Las Vegas. Maybe I just didn't see all of the good things that the city has to offer. What are everyone else's thoughts on the city of sin? Do you like it?

agreed. I hate how the soul-sucking, pornography-passing perverts smack the flyers on their hands. it makes my head hurt.
ReplyDeletesome of the buildings are beautiful, and they feel misplaced. the shopping is RIDICULOUS. I tried on a pair of stilettos at dolce & gabbana and, on sale, they were $495! eek. good thing I don't have a credit card.
Actually I love Vegas. There are tons of things to do. There are wonderful fun shows to see. There is a Fry's Electronics that you can spend hours and tons of $$ in. I am a little wierd though, I like to watch people play craps and blackjack though I do not play these games. Also there is tons of great food in Vegas. there is a sandwich shop just off the strip near the Stratisphere which makes the best sandwichs. If you can go there and order the "Bobbie" it is very good.
ReplyDeleteI think that you missed the point, not all of the way, but sort of. Las Vegas has tons of fun stuff to do and see. And they have some of the best, and cheapest food around. You can thank all of those soul sucked gamblers. Don't be so quick to put a lable on it. But if you don't like it, nobody will make you go back. I would go there in a heart beat just for the food. You should have eaten at the Bellagio. You may have a different opinion.
ReplyDeleteVegas is also one of the sin capitals of the world. By going there at all, even if it's only for the food, you are endorsing that. How much is "cheap food" worth to you? Since it is essentially riding on the backs of those soul-sucked gamblers, in a manner of speaking you are getting your food at the cost of people's entire lives which are being destroyed by gambling and debt. I won't even go into all the prostitution and other activities that are going on there. If you have any respect for women, you shouldn't be so quick to defend a city that passes out nude pictures of them like candy. It is impossible to go to Vegas without getting pornography and immorality shoved in your face at every turn. They also make a complete mockery of marriage with their "get married quick and get divorced even quicker" wedding chapels the city is so famous for. Las Vegas (or at least, the central part with the Strip and all the casinos--the traditional vacation destination) is the antithesis of all that is good and holy in this world.
ReplyDelete(If you like Frys, go to Sacramento. There is tons of stuff to do there as well.)
What other people do with their lives is up to them. If they want to throw it away so that I can have cheap food, more power to them.
ReplyDeletePlus, I have seen crap in my day that makes Vegas look good. I have have had very good friends from Vegas. Don't be so quick to lable a city you don't know and understand. Pornography is all over the place. I can find it easier on the Web than I can in Vegas. What is the difference? Should I never touch my computer again? You need to get out of happy valley and see the real world.
Yep, and I've heard Babylon had some nice gardens... quite the tourist attraction, but it didn't make up for the city's, shall we say, less-redeemable qualities.
ReplyDeleteI have good friends from Vegas, too, though unlike some people I am not claiming that makes me an expert on the place. You know nothing of my "understanding" of Las Vegas, so stop making assumptions with no basis in fact. I didn't say everyone who lives there is evil and should be destroyed (though there are quite a few people who probably fall into that category).
Let's get our terms clear here. When I speak of Vegas, I am talking about the "touristy" part: the strip, casinos, gambling, porn, etc. Most of your cheap food would fall under that industry as well. That is what brings probably 95% of the visitors/tourists to Las Vegas, and if you took that away, well, there wouldn't be much left would there. It's really just a crappy town in the middle of a desert that wouldn't even have enough water if it didn't get it from somewhere else.
The internet has a purpose *besides* pornography, gambling, and immorality. If you took those things away from Las Vegas, it wouldn't last long, as least not in the form that we all know (and love... apparently). So your analogy accomplished nothing besides invalidating the rest of your arguments. Vegas is a place that glorifies in lust, gluttony, disrespect, and irreverence. It is, as Ken said, the epitome of the "great and spacious building" (or the pride of the world) that Lehi spoke of.
Also, I have seen a lot more of the "real world" than you have, so stop the childish insult-throwing. It's not like I personally attacked you character or something. Why are you getting so defensive about a city?
Crappy town my arse! Maybe you should go and visit some of the other none tourist attractions before you call it crap. You can throw around all of the fancy lingo that you want. You can even call me childish. But it won't change anything. You are just going to call it crap no matter what I say. Other than the Gambling, SLC has everything that Vegas does. Maybe we should shun it as well. If Vegas were so bad, then why is there a LDS temple there. Because if all the gamling and "crap" wasn't there, the city wouldn't exist. So I guess by the church putting a temple there, they are endorsing "Sin City." Lay off the fancy words and accept that every city in the world has its goood points and its bad points. You have no argument, BACK DOWN!
ReplyDeleteI don't think there's anything to be getting so uptight about, you both have pretty good points in some ways. There are a lot of good things in Vegas, and a lot of really bad things. I wouldn't say Salt Lake has EVERYTHING Vegas has besides gambling ;-) but it certainly isn't perfect either, so it doesn't really matter the degree to which either one is evil. We're all capable here of judging evil and staying away from it if we need to, and that's the important thing. If you're going to Vegas for food and the temple and to see good people, that's great. If you're going for gambling and porn, well, that's bad. Some people will be more fond of the city than others, that's ok, difference of opinion makes life interesting. Let's all be nice now. Lol.
